FASHIONY
FASHIONY was a dynamic, process-driven exhibition curated by Erika Dalya Massaquoi for the iconic Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle. Designed specifically for festival-goers, the exhibition highlighted cutting-edge trends in global fashion illustration, African design, and emerging Beijing streetwear. Rooted in Massaquoi’s interdisciplinary expertise in fashion systems, visual culture, and immersive experience design, FASHIONY reimagined the gallery as a vibrant workroom—a space where the creative process of fashion was as celebrated as its final form.
The exhibition’s poster design, featuring an eclectic mix of fonts, served as a visual overture to the show’s multidimensional approach—symbolizing the layered, pluralistic nature of contemporary fashion practice. Inside the gallery, salon-style installations of tear sheets, textiles, photography, and video reflected the methodologies and aesthetics of a working fashion studio, offering visitors an intimate glimpse into the art of trend forecasting, textile innovation, and visual storytelling.
Drawing on her leadership in global trend analysis, curatorial practice, and brand development—honed through her extensive work across leading cultural institutions—Massaquoi crafted an audience-centered experience that bridged emerging cultural movements with the creative industries shaping them.
Through FASHIONY, Massaquoi invited Bumbershoot audiences to engage with the energy, complexity, and global interconnectedness of contemporary fashion—where design, commerce, and creativity converge in real time.
